Nina was a very good sport in this session. The water was cold and she got pretty messy. She actually requested this for a Halloween shoot. She has done all types of modeling and she told me she was tired of the same old things. So we did a Ghost and Zombie set. These are older and I do have to say some of them are grainy and little out of focus, but its one of those mistakes that looks good in this set because it adds to the creepy quality of the photos. Almost as if they were shot with film.
As most of the people know who have worked with me, I get a lot of my inspiration from film, in this case Horror films. My brother and I used to make kung fu and war movies when we were kids and we used to do a lot of our own stunts and special effects. Doing FAKE violence and gore was always fun growing up so I just applied the knowledge here. You hear all kinds of things from the film industry as to what they use for blood. Well, depending on how dark you want it there are so many different ways to do it.
Here is my secret: Strawberry Quick with red food coloring. And to make it darker you can add Hershey's chocolate Quick. Why all the flavors and chocolate?
Because it tastes good for the models and it can look pretty good too! Its also pretty cheap. It is messy though and very sticky, but thats the fun! After shooting I brought the pictures into Photoshop and added real skull images to make it ever darker. Thats whats so cool about doing zombies. You can just take them into different levels of decomposition.
